To clean correctly rust spots on marble is a hard work and
sometimes large process. We should remember that marble is a calcite based stone wich
makes it sensible to acid cleaners normally used to clean rust; Using these acid products,
will result in a lost of shine and then we´ll have to look for proffessional help in
order to restore it.
In conclusion the best way to clean rust on a polished marble is to leave it in
professional hands.
You should make a maintenance program, cleaning mainly with water, and from time to time using special products for stone.
First we supposed is a polished marble floor; It depends on the depth, if it is a "soft" scratch you can use chemical products designed to make this job, in the worst case you will have to restore it re-polishing again, of course this job made by trained people.
Installing marble in a kitchen, would be taken as a
mistake, for kitchen tops the best choice is granite, due to it´s composition, is easier
to maintain in good appereance and stronger than marble. We have to remember that marble
is a calcareous stone, and this makes marble specially sensitive to acid, (lemon, tomato
etc.) and that´s the reason why for kitchen granite is better.
Repolishing a stone should be done with special equipement, and probably your stone
supplier has to take the kitchen top to the factory, unless he owns a portable system to
use indoor. For re-polishing yourself, our suggestion is to make a deep cleaning, apply a
"Shine restorer product" and finally proteccion product. In order to make shine
last longer, you should have a maintenance program, based on daily cleaning and about each
2 or 3 weeks the shine restorer.
May I use soap to clean marble floors?
If it is a special product no doubt about it, but any way is preferable to make daily cleaning with water.
¿ What is granite ?
Granite is an igneous rock of visible crystalline formation and texture. It is composed of feldspar and other minerals, such as zircon, apatite, magnetite, ilmenite, and sphene. Granite crystallizes from magma that cools slowly, deep below the earth's surface. Exceptionally slow rates of cooling give rise to a very coarse-grained variety called pegmatite. The specific gravity of granite ranges from 2.63 to 2.75. Granite has greater strength than sandstone, limestone, and marble and is correspondingly more difficult to quarry. It is an important building stone, the best grades being extremely resistant to weathering.
¿What is flamed granite?
Flamed granite describes the type of surface applied to it, flamed is a finish wich leaves a wavy but colored surface. Other possible finishes are polished, honed, carved.
